I downloaded and started testing Automise, but I am confused as to its purpose.
I was hoping that automise would let us create some autom-lets that we could then send away to users for tech support etc… but I could not find anything about redistributables or stand-alones.
It looks a lot like FinalBuilder, minus the development-related stuff. On the other hand I could not find any of the plusses. Is it just going to be a cheaper “light” version of FB ?

The idea for Automise came from some of our customers. It seems a lot of people (ourselves included) use FinalBuilder for all sorts things, not just for running automated builds. For example we use FinalBuilder to run our back processes, not something I originally had in mind when I started working on FinalBuilder back in 1999. Almost every day we hear from people doing all sorts of automation tasks using FinalBuilder, and we thought a cut down version of FinalBuilder would be quite useful to some.

Basically, yes. Network/System administrators don't need all the development stuff, but even without those features there is still plenty left. Eventually we will start adding stuff to Automise that won't appear in FinalBuilder. For Automise 1.0, the code is 99.5% the same as FinalBuilder (not a bad thing imho, it's a tried & tested codebase).

Vincent.
Any thought given to making FB able to produce read-only, stand-alone, projects that could run with a re-distributable "runner" ? This is what I hope Automiser was when I saw it on your website.
It would avoid having to write tons of mini programs to do stuff that FB could do so well.
Not to mention (as I did a year or so ago) that it would make FB the ultimate installation tool (Die InstallShield ! Die !).
I'd certainly be willing to pay quite a price differential for an FB version that created stand-alones (actually the feature set of Automise is fine, the standalones would not need any of the development stuff).

It's something we'd certainly like to do one day (the idea is not new!), but I'm not going to make any promises at this time.
