Hi,
I was wondering if you had thought about adding some kind of CD labelling action.
As part of our build we automatically create an ISO file, then when finishing off the build FB tests for a CD in the drive and will burn the ISO file to it – It’s so nice to have the build complete automatically and have a CD pop out ready to go!
It would be really nice if their was some way that the CD could be labelled with a LightScribe (or LabelFlash) burn. I realise this would require the CD to be ejected, flipped (manually!) and FB wait to see if the CD is reloaded (or time out if not) which we can already do in FB, then use the DVD burner to create a label on the disk.
I did hear LabelFlash could burn to the data side of the disk, maybe this could be done saving the whole flipping bit – Although I may be speaking rubbish about that, and naturally I’d be the first person to load the CD in upside down if it got labelled on the data side! It would however provide a method of ensuring the CD got the correct build label applied.
Naturally this would require some form of prepared art work and some way to merge in the current build number or other FB variable and unfortunately delay the availability of the CD whilst the labelling occurred.
Alternatively on similar lines perhaps have a designated printer and send a print job (with merged in FB variables) to it so we could just drop the disk in the printer and have it labelled or use one of those lovely sticky CD labels in the paper tray ready to go.
For now I guess I’m sticking with the marker pen to write the build number on! – It’s the only manual part of our build remaining.
I guess really I should go away and try to create some kind of custom action for FB to use a Dymo Label Writer to print out one of those mini CD labels as that would be quite easy (famous last words!) as their SDK is nice and easy to get on with and readily available.
Cheers,
Steve.
