Hi,
Half annoyance, half wishlist, half bug…not sure
Basically, when you drag/drop actions, depending on exactly where you’re trying to drop to, you either get that thin line with the little pointers, or a fat bar. Basically, the fat bar is annoying, and not helpful - if you drop when it’s a fat bar, you get a nested item, which is not often what you want. On the other hand, trying to get the thin line to appear is tricky, whether it appears or not seems to depend on where you are horizontally on the line.
I also don’t really get the point of the little arrow indicators. They actually don’t affect anything. If you drop item A between items B and C, so there’s a thin line between B and C, it doesn’t make any difference which way the arrows are pointing - the final result will be BAC.
In summary: Ditch the “fat bar” drop mode, as well as the arrow pointers: Collapse three different drop modes into one.
It’d also be nice to be able to easily move an item to the end of the list - currently you have to position it just after the last item. If you position it way off the bottom, you can’t drop it at all.
Also, undo after drag-drop would be great. It’s a bit scary atm if you drag-drop by accident, and have to guess where it came from.
Hope some of this makes sense.
Steve
Hi Steve,
Yep, it’s a bit fiddly for sure. All those things you mention are features of the grid/tree we’re using. When you’re dropping actions and the cursor is on the left hand side, then you will get a child action, whereas on the right hand side you get the thin line with the indicators, which can actually make a difference. eg. if you have action A, and then a child action B, if the thin line is between these two when dropping C but the little arrowy thing pointing up, then you’ll get C as a sibling of A, whereas pointing down you’ll get a sibling of B… does that make sense ?
agree that undo for drag-drop would be good!

Also, you can move action(s) around by using Ctrl-Up and Ctrl-Down, which ultimately is a lot faster than drag and drop (although I also agree that there is room for improvement.)
