Hi guys,
We’ve recently created a TFS 2015 development server which mirrors our current TFS 2013 live server. I’m trying to add the 2015 collection as a new repository in Continua for some testing before we upgrade our live server, but I’m getting the message below:
I wanted to confirm with you what the problem is here. I have VS 2013 Premium installed on the CI server which can access both the 2013 and 2015 TFS servers. Is this an issue with my installations on the 2015 server?
Thanks
Hi Luke,
If you have selected TFS 2015 as the TFS Version then you need to install the TFS 2015 client. Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, have decided not to release a TFS Team Explorer 2015. So you need to install Visual Studio 2015 (you can install the Community edition for free - to space disk space do a custom installation an deselect all the features).
Alternatively you can select TFS 2013 as the TFS Version and access TFS 2015 using the TFS 2013 client.
Cheers for the info Dave - I’ve gone for using the 2013 client for now. May get around to installing the 2015 client at a later date.
Regards,
Luke
Reviewing ContinuaCI for my team. On a fresh box, I’ve got the VS2015 Community Edition and ContinuaCI Server 1.7.1.163 installed. I’m getting the same error as above. Also, I see that the assembly is in C:\Program Files\VSoft Technologies\ContinuaCI\Server (see below for screenshots). VS2015 has no problem accessing TFS and checking out code.
Hi Micheal,
Thank you for reporting this. We have reproduced this issue here. It looks like something has changed since Visual Studio 2015 Update 1. We'll need to spend some time investigating the correct solution for this as Microsoft no longer installs the TFS assemblies into the GAC. There's also a new API that we should be able to take advantage of.
Meanwhile the workaround is to install Team Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 and specify the TFS version as "2013'
.
