FB8 behaving strangely (i.e. not working) under Windows 10

Hi!

Yesterday I moved from my old Windows 7 machine to a new development machine with Windows 10 and in the process did a fresh install of FinalBuilder 8. Under Windows 7 I had last been working with FinalBuilder 7. Now this new version is behaving very strangely: When trying to open my old fbp7 projects, FB simply displays a “Please wait a moment…” information popup with a progress bar for a few seconds which then disappears without the project having been loaded. The same thing happens when I try to create a new project or when I try to exit FinalBuilder. In fact, I can only close FinalBuilder via the Windows Task Manager. Every attempt to close it in a regular way just results in the “Please wait a moment” popup. It does not appear to make a difference whether I run FinalBuilder from an admin account or as a regular user.

As it is now, FinalBuilder is completely unusable on this machine. Oliver

This not what we are experiencing in our tests or on our vm installations of FinalBuilder 8 on Windows 10.

It sounds like there is an exception occurring when FinalBuilder 8 loads the FinalBuilder 7 projects. If this is the case then a “finalBuilder-bugreport.txt” exception log will be written to the %TEMP% directory. If there are number of them, please zip them and send the lot.

In addition to this I have some further questions to help understand what is occurring.

- Do you have an custom actions currently being used in FinalBuilder 7? Have they been moved to FinalBuilder 8 and had their serialisation field filled in through Action Studio?
- Is FinalBuilder 8 running with admin privileges?

Hi Jason,

thanks for responding. Where should I send the bugreport file?
In any case, I already took a look at it myself. Most of the exceptions logged are this:

exception class : EOleSysError
exception message : Class not registered, ClassID: {1829B7FE-CA4D-441C-9F52-BA60B59F138D}.

When I just open FB8 and then try to close it (without trying to open a project first) the log shows this:

exception class : EOleSysError
exception message : An outgoing call cannot be made since the application is dispatching an input-synchronous call, ClassID: {1829B7FE-CA4D-441C-9F52-BA60B59F138D}.

Looking directly at the registry, the ClassID mentioned in both messages is indeed not registered on either of the two machines. I cannot identify it.

I am not using any custom actions.

As I wrote, I already tried both from an admin account and with a regular user (which would be my preferred choice - although on the old machine my user account did indeed have local admin privileges). This does not appear to have an impact on the issue. I get the same behaviour with both users.

Cheers,

Oliver

Hi Oliver,

Thank you for the follow up information. If you could send the error report to our support email address support@finalbuilder.com we will follow up there.
