New to Automise and have some questions

I have just started using Automise and I have been able to figure out a lot of things but I'm stuck on a couple other things.

I'm still in the trial period and if I can get this to do everything I need my company will be buying this product.  What we are using it for is to run our daily posting to our cost accounting system.  To run the posting I have to kick off a process called DataLoader and run it in batch, which I can do.  I have been able to figure out how to launch MS Access and run some queries to create some log files to include in the daily log email that I use Automise to send out, works great.

One of the areas that I'm having problems is that after the DataLoader runs I would like to create some folders and take all of the new log files and the load files and move them into a subfolder with the date and a small description.  I created a variable called DateTime and I populate that variable just fine but when I try to use it when using the Create Directory function but I can't seem to make that work, any suggestions?

The second challenge that I'm facing is that I would like for this system to look at the time/data stamp on a specific file and save that into automise and then include this information in the log file.  The reason is that we want to make sure that the files that were loaded were new files and not just yesterdays files.  When our IS department creates the daily load files they are stored in a directory under the same name everyday.  Our system will load that file daily and if its the same file as the day before it will simply reload that file and we will get all the error logs and such as if it was loading the correct file when in actuality we are now missing the current days load.

I'm pretty good with figuring things out but I'm an accountant by trade so anything real complex will probably be beyond my ability.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Scott

Hi Scott,

I have created an example project that demonstrates how some of these tasks can be achieved. It includes an example of how to create directories that contain the current date/time within the name. I have also provided two demonstrations of capturing file date details and writing them to a log. The first example is a straightforward example with a single file.

The second example of this uses the FileSet actions, which allow you to easily manipulate groups of files based on criteria that you specify.

I have provided comments within the script with an explanation of what I am doing. You may need to modify this to suit your needs, but hopefully it should point you in the right direction.

Let me know if you need me to cover anything else to get this all working.

Regards,

Steve
